Green Shooting

Spain Film Commission, in collaboration with REDCAU (The Spanish Network of Audiovisual Clusters) and CENER (The National Renewable Energy Centre), has promoted and edited the book entitled ‘Situación actual de los aspectos de sostenibilidad en el sector audiovisual’ (The Current Situation of Sustainability in the Audiovisual Sector). This pioneering report analyses current practices, identifies areas for improvement and opportunities, as well as proposing solutions to drive sustainability in the sector.

The study, the first to address sustainability in the Spanish audiovisual industry, highlights a series of challenges and shortfalls that require urgent attention. The conclusions have been drawn up thanks to the participation of more than fifty key agents operating in the audiovisual sector chain throughout the country.

These conclusions highlight the lack of sustainable options in the production chain, the need to heighten awareness and deliver suitable training for film crews, as well as the absence of consensus regarding the sustainability standards and methodologies that should be introduced.

To address these issues, three specific actions are proposed.

In order to address these issues, three specific actions are proposed. Firstly, the need to identify standardised sustainability criteria for shootings, ideally of an international or European scope.

Secondly, there is an emphasis on the importance of driving the ecological transition through specific aid for the implementation of sustainable measures in production projects, either with subsidies, loans or tax incentives.

Finally, the conclusions stress the need for raising awareness and providing training in sustainability, both on a general and specific level, for each professional profile involved in shooting projects.

This study not only represents a detailed analysis of the current situation of Spain’s audiovisual industry in terms of sustainability, but it also marks the start of the drive for active collaboration to promote more responsible and eco-friendly practices at all phases of film and television production in Spain. Together, we can build a more sustainable future for our industry and the planet.
