These locations were among the 45 finalists, with other locations from countries such as France, Germany, Poland or Italy.

The winning locations have been chosen by a popular voting among all European citizens on the Cineuropa platform.

The prizes were granted during a ceremony celebrated in Hotel Majestic in Cannes, within the framework of the Cannes Cinema Festival and counted with the presence of Beatriz Navas, director of ICAA.

The Director of Andalucía Film Commission, Piluca Querol, has received these prizes that recognize Andalucia as a top destination for European citizens, for audio-visual industry and shootings. These awards will also allow to spread this destination and the website ‘Andalucía, un destino de cine’, created by Andalucía Film Commission and Consejería de Turismo, Regeneración, Justicia y Administración Local  to promote screen tourism in this region.

These awards were convened in 2018 within the framework of the European Year of Cultural Heritage by the  European Film Commissions Network (EUFCN), an organization that gathers more than 90 film commissions from 30 different countries and the Italian Film Commission.

There are five categories: castles, bridges, squares, archaeological spaces and historical spaces. Andalucía Film Commission participated in these five categories. Besides of the winners, the italic archaeological site of Santiponce and the roman bridge of Cordoba had the second place in their categories.

The other two awarded spaces were Villa Adriana in Roma and the bridge of San Francesco in Subiaco, both Italian locations were submitted by Roma Lazio Film Commission.

These locations are part of an important cultural network in Andalucia and have been the shooting spots of multiple films and TV series. Sevilla’s Plaza España is considered since two years ago as treasure of European Film Culture, award given by European Film Academy , with only ten sites in Europe that hold this recognition.
