Money Heist, awarded for its contribution to promote Spain as a screen tourism destination

Spain Film Commission has distinguished the Spanish TV series, “La casa de papel” (“Money heist”), with the “Best audio visual production made in Spain in 2019” award to highlight productions that contribute to position the international image of Spain as a filming set.


Alex Pina and Esther Martínez Lobato, creator and scriptwriter respectively, will be awarded together with the actress Esther Acebo (Stockholm) on the 24th January in FITUR Screen space.


“Money heist”, a TV series produced by Vancouver Media and broadcasted by Antena 3 and, afterwards, by Netflix, that has reached a huge international success. Therefore, it has been distinguished with many national and international awards like the Emmys, Fénix awards, Iris awards… and counts with audience and fans around the world.


Most of the action takes place in Madrid: in the Spanish National Currency and Stamp Manufacturer and the Bank of Spain, but it was filmed in other locations of the city like the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC) or the Ministry of Public Works, which lots of spectators and fans have visited recently.


The finalists of this award are “Hierro” by Movistar+, filmed in the Canary Islands, and “Diecisiete”, a feature film by Daniel Sánchez Arévalo for Netflix filmed in Cantabria.
In the last edition, “La Peste”, a TV series created by Alberto Rodríguez and Rafael Cobos and broadcasted by Movistar+, was awarded with this prize for its locations set in Sevilla in the 16th century.
