The Monumental City of Cáceres was declared by the Council of Europe as the Third Monumental Complex of Europe in 1968 (after Prague and Tallin) and World Heritage Site by Unesco in 1986. This is one of the most comprehensive urban complexes and best preserved in Europe, consisting of buildings from the Middle Ages and the Renaissance.
